Hey guys, I built asterisk on some of my friends Synology units and thought others maybe interested in using asterisk on the DS211 In short, do the following: 1. Ssh into your NAS from a client as root user. (you need to enable SSH on the NAS for this to work) # Create a directory to store the IPKG.Skip this step if you have IPKG already loaded on your NAS 2.
Cd /volume1 3. Mkdir public 4. Wget # Run the package to load IPKG 6. Sh syno-mvkw-bootstrap1.2-7arm-ds111.xsh. Start of Asterisk Installation. # Update IPKG & Check that Asterisk is available 7. Ipkg update 8.
Apr 10, 2013 - Synology DS212 and Asterisk – Part 3: Cisco 7941, SIP firmware. In my case, I am trying to setup a Gigaset N300A with the Asterisk. So I have a Synology DS212j NAS that has a slew of my BluRay rips on it all in MKV format. The DS212j also has a Plex Media Server package inside the package center that I'm able to install, I've tried this but when I try to play the movie from my iPad with the Plex app or from my browser, I'm unable to run it because according to my research, the DS212j isn't powerful enough to offer transcoding.

Ipkg-opt list grep asterisk # I am installing asterisk 1.6 here as I could not get 1.8 working with GUI 2.0. Ipkg install asterisk16 10. Ipkg install asterisk-gui. Start Asterisk as a service on the NAS.
10. Cd /opt/etc/asterisk 11. Asterisk –vvvvr # Lets get the HTTP server running. Use your preferred editor and change the two following files: manager.conf general enabled = yes webenabled = yes port = 5038 bindaddr = 0.0.0.0 admin secret = mysecret read = system, call, log, verbose, agent, user, config, dtmf, reporting, cdr, dialplan write = system, call, agent, user, config, command, reporting, originate http.conf; general enabled = yes bindaddr = 0.0.0.0 bindport = 8088 prefix = asterisk enablestatic = yes postmappings backups = /opt/var/lib/asterisk/guibackups moh = /opt/var/lib/asterisk/moh # Check that the HTTP Server is running.
You need to be in asterisk CLI for this. Step 11 gets you to the cli command line. Http show status example output of a working http server: NAS.CLI http show status HTTP Server Status: Prefix: /asterisk Server Enabled and Bound to 0.0.0.0:8088 Enabled URI's: /asterisk/httpstatus = Asterisk HTTP General Status /asterisk/phoneprov/. = Asterisk HTTP Phone Provisioning Tool /asterisk/manager = HTML Manager Event Interface /asterisk/rawman = Raw HTTP Manager Event Interface /asterisk/static/. = Asterisk HTTP Static Delivery /asterisk/mxml = XML Manager Event Interface Enabled Redirects: None. # now you can configure asterisk via the cli by browsing to: http::8088/asterisk/static/config/index.html Happy telephoning Michael.
Hi Michael Have you been able to workout a startup script? If so could you please post it here? I got the server up and running to thank you for the tutorial;) I bought the B2K adapter at the spur of the moment for 4 Euros and I want to make free phone calls back home to Switzerland (voip-discount.com) I installed asterisk I have it running and the web interface works perfectly. I think asterisk integration can be achieved If I now plug the B2K in the USB LED wont light up, think it is dueto the missing kernel module. There are 2 ways: As described here: people have crosscompled the module with bitbake. Unfortunately bitbake is not available via ipkg install So I took the sources for the kb2kskype from sourceforge and tried to compile them. You can find the log in the attachment.
It did not got very far. I would be very grateful for any kind of suggestions to solve the problem Thank you very much. To make the (asterisk) deamon start at boot create a script in /usr/syno/etc/rc.d/ S99Asterisk.sh command: touch /usr/syno/etc/rc.d/S99Asterisk.sh Edit the script with vi command: vi /usr/syno/etc/rc.d/S99Asterisk.sh Copy and paste the following script: - #!/bin/sh # Copyright (c) 2000-2003 Synology Inc. All rights reserved. SynoStop=/usr/bin/killall User=root if 'start' = '$1' ; then su -l $User -c '/opt/sbin/asterisk' /dev/null 2&1 & elif 'stop' = '$1' ; then $SynoStop asterisk elif 'restart' = '$1' ; then $0 stop $0 start fi - Write and close the file with vi command: (in command mode):wq! Make the script executable command: chmod +x /usr/syno/etc/rc.d/S99Asterisk.sh Thanks to jos.vh for his wonderful post. I followed the rules in the first post, but I installed Asterisk 1.8.6.0.
I do get the GUI on http::8088/asterisk/static/config/index.html. But when I login I get a message about automatic upgrading with an OK button. When I click this button I get the same message again, and again, and again, and again. I tried it in IE9 and FF6, with the same results.
Now, I thought the problem might be that I installed Asterisk 1.8 and not 1.6 (stupid me.). So I want to uninstall 1.8 and install 1.6. But I don't know how to remove 1.8. I followed these steps but when I try to install version 1.6 it says that a lot of files already are there (so apparently the 1.8 installation is still there; I can also still start Asterisk 1. Hi, I am havingthe same problem as i.chanccc What is the default user name and password.
Made change in manager.conf admin secret=YourPassword read = system, call, log, verbose, agent, user, config, dtmf, reporting, cdr, dialplan write = system, call, agent, user, config, command, reporting, originate But i still not able to login. Username: admin?????? Pass: YourPassword and my Asterisk server only show the following 3 lines.
/asterisk/httpstatus = Asterisk HTTP General Status /asterisk/phoneprov/. = Asterisk HTTP Phone Provisioning Tool /asterisk/static/. = Asterisk HTTP Static Delivery Can some1 help me plz? Thank you for putting this together seafurymike. I was able to get this installed and running on my DS212j using your steps. Now I just need to hook up a phone and configure a SIP account. How are most of you connecting a phone to this setup?
Are you plug a SIP phone via network cable into your network? Or can you use a FXS adapter on your network (such as the SPA3102) and just plug a regular phone into it? I am guessing you can do either but I thought I would ask to see what everyone is doing.
Is it possible to use Asterisk (running on Synology) by using only a soft phone running on a computer with no physical phone or adapter?
DSM Version: 5.0-4528. A bit old but I want to avoid the pain of another buggy DSM.
/volume1/Plex is still there, contains 554.1MB in 11K files & 8K folders If I had read your FAQ before installing the Plex package I would never have installed it. 2 reasons: first, the DS212j cpu is not big enough to do the job and second, renaming hundreds if not thousands of video and music files would make me think again. It is nice to read about automation in the process but still too much work for me. In the Synology Control Panel under Applicaztions I can see a Media Library listed, containing directories /music and /videos. I assume they are from Plex. I appreciate any suggestions you can offer. I am no expert in the area, I was using a Synology diskstation to store videos & music.
Now I can’t access the files. OK, so I trust you have found your media files then? First, you really need to update DSM, open control panel-update and restore and if an update is available (it should be) then update, and keep updating until there are no more updates, or you can reset the NAS by following this guide: You wont lose any files provided you follow the guide. This formats the hidden system partition and then re-installs DSM.
This way you can install the latest version of DSM without having to go through all of the updates and you will have a nice clean system to start with. Once done, you don’t have to do a lot of configuring in DSM, just leave things alone unless you are instructed to change something. Then follow the FAQ’s page and install Plex, nothing else. I think you mean under control panel-system, there is an option for ‘Media Indexing’, that has nothing to do with Plex, but unless you are using the Synology Media Server/Video Station software, you should turn those off for the default video, music, photo folders. You should follow Q3 to Q5 on the FAQ’s page, then you should be ready for the next steps.
To rename your files is fairly painless and only requires that you install FileBot, preferably on your PC/Mac/Linux box. This will help you to name the files correctly for Plex automatically. And last but not least, you should never be afraid to learn new things. I know that computers can be very daunting at times, but if you persevere you will get there in the end. It is really not that hard to do, the hardest thing to overcome is your fear of screwing things up. So what if you mess it up, you are not going to blow anything up, the computer/NAS simply wont work the way it should until you correct your mistakes.
And everyone makes mistakes, no exceptions! If you are unsure about how to do something, then Google it. For example, if you wanted to install a program, then in Google, you would type 'how do I install ‘X’ on my PC' In this case, ‘X’ is the name of the program. Or, you could ask questions in other forums that are related to your question.
BTW, do you use a PC or a Mac or a Linux box? Thanks for the detailed reply! Sadly no, I have not found my missing video & music files. The Plex structure is there but I can’t see my 100s (if not 1000s) of files. They were there on the Synology DS212j before I installed Plex, now that I uninstalled it the Plex directory structure is still there but the files are not visible. Do I need to really need to install the latest DSM and then re-install Plex just to get my files back?
Last time I updated DSM, Synology’s Surveillance Station program stopped working for months. Updating DSM is a last resort.
If I want X & Plex I will put them on a dedicated 4- or 8- core PC, no more under powered NAS cpu for me. I use 2 desktops on Win7 & 2 desktops with Ubuntu. I would probably purpose build a dedicated machine for media from spare parts off Craigs. Does it help Plex to have a reasonable graphics card such as a Radeon R9 280?
I will be off line for the next day or so. No big rush here - if my files can be recovered I really want to get them back. Thanks again for your kind words & assistance.
